Working in Video/DVD

A new and exciting position of Videographer also exists within IMAGE. The majority of Holland America and Cunard ships offer the possibility for employment as a Videographer. Each ship has one Videographer, who works alongside the photographers onboard. The Videographer is responsible for video taping events, editing all the elements into a final production, making copies of the production for sale, and then selling the video to the guests onboard.

The typical length of each video production is between 30 - 45 minutes in length. Each production includes video from around the ship, a look behind the scenes, the ports of call, the key personnel onboard and the stars of the show, the guests themselves. We are now selling cruise DVDs on some ships.

Those interested in the video department should have good digital editing skills, be conversant with Mini DV cameras and have experience of working with Apple Macintosh computers. As each ship only has one Videographer onboard, you should be able to work with minimal supervision, have strong social skills and be capable of producing a video, from start to finish, each and every cruise. Videographers earn their salary from sales of the final production and other retail items onboard. Thus, you will need to be sales oriented to succeed in this position.
